Looks like 2024 brought a vibe shift in the music scene, thanks to female artists like Charli XCX, Lorde, Caroline Polachek, Chappell Roan: the pop music renaissance lives through the power of their queer looks, bold tunes and chaotic vibes. While more mainstream pop stars like Tylor Swift and Lana del Rey still dominate the music landscape, these artists are making their way to our playlists and also to the stages of the most important venues, opening gigs and getting the attention they deserve.

As her Spotify monthly listeners grow, Roan is also catching the attention on social media thanks to her campy, theatrical outfits inspired by her Midwestern roots and her beauty looks paying homage to 80s drag queen make-up. At first she was in charge of her own beauty looks, then the talented make-up artist Andrew Dahling took over giving life to her vision through body paint and quirky details: he was behind the Lady Liberty look at Gov Ball in NY, the make-up inspired by queer legend Divine (star of Pink Flamingos), and also the spectacular look for her appearance at Jimmy Fallon show.

The aesthetic elements that make her stand out in the crowd of mainstream pop singers go hand-in-hand with the topics of her latest album, where she tackles love, sexuality, freedom, psychology and queerness taking the audience on a journey into her universe and making the queer community feel connected to her.

In music Chappell found the strength to express herself like never before, and this album is her manifesto of freedom and emancipation: "I would like to represent queer girls in high schools, who just want to be ladies, become wives, and then free themselves and turn into dragons. This album is for teenage girls who thought it was just a phase. It's for myself."
