In this interview, we delve into the world of DINO JUNIOR GULINO, who share his inspirations and unique perspectives.
"DIFFERENT" THAILAND KOH SAMUI - 2024
1. Introduce Yourself to the Casawi Community: What drives you? What's your artistic vision, and what sets you apart from the crowd?
Born in Milan with roots in Catania, Sicily. I never attended any schools or universities for this kind of work, but it all started thanks to a chance encounter ten years ago, while I was in a job that touched on similar topics but in completely different contexts. I love those random moments and spontaneous experiences, and I try to incorporate them into everything I do. Unfortunately, that's not always possible due to limitations that I believe we are still too insecure to overcome in Italy.
2. City Inspirations: How has your city influenced your artistic path? Share how its streets, culture, and energy have molded your work.
My favorite city in the world, the one I’m completely in love with, is New York. Milan has given me a lot of beautiful experiences, but lately, it feels incredibly restrictive and, at times, even boring. A change is definitely on the cards. That being said, this city has inspired me in many ways, with moments full of color, like blue—my favorite color—and situations that feel like scenes from a movie. Strange ones, really strange.
3. Creative Process: What fuels your creativity? Whether it's a ritual, a muse, or a moment of clarity, we're keen to learn.
Creativity for me comes from freedom—it’s when I feel unrestricted that my ideas truly flow. The night has always made me reflect, because you find yourself alone in a crazy world where sometimes, a single decision can change your entire path. I believe that experiencing intense moments firsthand in contexts you care about makes you more intuitive and creative.
4. City Lifestyle and Art: How the places you lived influenced your career and work?
Living in Milan has definitely influenced my perspective on photography, especially on the commercial side, where you have to keep up with projects that, in my opinion, take away the creativity needed to make something truly unique. I still believe that every artist should remain true to themselves, expressing what they truly are, without filters.
5. Latest or Upcoming Projects: Give us a glimpse into your current endeavors and what lies ahead on your creative journey.
Looking to the future, I see a major change, especially in other cities. I can share that starting in January, I’ll be traveling to foreign cities, particularly in Asia, as I find more inspiration for my ideas there. However, I’ll always remain based in Italy, because it’s where my heart is.
