Ichiban Motorcycles' latest electric motorcycle draws inspiration from the iconic red bike featured in the 1988 anime film Akira. The design pays homage to the vehicle piloted by Shotaro Kaneda, the leader of a fictional motorcycle gang called The Capsules.
The motorcycle's performance matches its dramatic appearance. Its 45-kW dual-motor system propels riders from zero to 62 mph in 3.5 seconds when using the motorcycle's high-performance mode. The battery charges to 70% capacity in 30 minutes, while safety features include anti-lock brakes and traction control.
Designer Ivan Zhurba incorporated elements from Akira while adhering to Kanso, the Japanese design principle emphasizing simplicity and purity. This approach manifests in the motorcycle's clean lines and streamlined profile.
Akira, adapted from Katsuhiro Otomo's manga series, has influenced action cinema for decades. The scene of Kaneda sliding his motorcycle to a stop remains one of the film's most referenced moments.
