Addressing the issue of deepfakes, artist FKA Twigs, recently spoke to a US Senate Judiciary subcommittee. She highlighted the risks posed by deepfakes, which replicate the appearance, voice, and personality traits of real individuals. Artists like FKA Twigs, Grimes, Drake, Billie Eilish, and Kendrick Lamar have all been impacted by deepfakes, with potential threats to their careers and livelihoods.

FKA Twigs plans to release her own AI-generated deepfake in 2024 to engage with fans while she concentrates on her music. However, she raised concerns about unauthorized deepfakes using her image and voice, which could lead to unapproved songs and collaborations being falsely attributed to her. This situation underscores the lack of control artists have over their artistic and financial rights in the digital realm.
In her testimony, Twigs expressed her astonishment at the need for such a discussion, given the apparent infringement on artists’ rights.
