The Bronx rapper Ice Spice has transformed the Mercedes-Benz CLA into a gleaming chrome vehicle befitting her self-proclaimed "Princess of Rap" status. The custom creation was unveiled Thursday evening at Mercedes' Hell's Kitchen dealership in New York as part of the automaker's new creative initiative.
Mercedes-Benz has assembled what they're calling a "Class of Creators" - a collective of five artists from different creative fields who will each present their own artistic interpretations of the new CLA model over the coming year. Ice Spice leads this collaborative effort, with designer Gustaf Westman, fashion brand KidSuper, video game League of Legends, and toy maker Hot Wheels set to follow with their own versions.
The rapper's design features a distinctive molten chrome exterior that completely envelops the vehicle, including glazed windows that hide the interior from view. Custom "Ice Spice" wheels, chain-link trim details, and a prominent pink "Princess" motif across the center complete the customization.
At the unveiling event, attendees were treated to performances by cast members from the Broadway production "Hell's Kitchen", with Brooklyn DJ LPX providing music throughout the evening. Guests could also preview Ice Spice's upcoming merchandise collection - a capsule of black and pastel hoodies and T-shirts set for future release.
The Ice Spice design represents just the first in what will be a year-long series of artistic CLA interpretations from the Class of Creators. Mercedes plans to reveal the remaining collaborations in the months ahead.
