IRISH DESIGNER ROBYN LYNCH UNVEILS FOOTBALL JERSEY PROJECT

The project revisits two GAA (Gaelic Athletic Association) football jerseys belonging to Lynch's father, which were originally scanned and reinterpreted for her Autumn/Winter 2022 runway show.

The new jerseys feature digitally printed designs based on the original scans, which are then heat-pressed onto custom-made, box-fit jerseys at Lynch's studio in Hackney Wick, London. The production process involves printing the artwork onto sublimation paper before transferring it to the fabric, resulting in unique pieces that blend traditional Irish sports culture with contemporary fashion design.

To showcase the collection, Lynch collaborated with London-based art director Rory Mullen and multidisciplinary artist Peter Eason Daniels on a large-scale art installation at Crystal Palace Sports Centre. The installation featured an oversized jersey draped across the stadium's terraces, symbolizing the unifying power of sports in diverse communities.

Lynch's choice of Crystal Palace Sports Centre as the backdrop for this project is significant, as it represents a gathering place for various London communities. By bringing elements of Irish heritage to this setting, Lynch aims to share aspects of her culture with a wider audience in the British capital.

The collection continues Lynch's exploration of Irish heritage and personal nostalgia, themes that have been central to her brand since its inception. The jerseys, which combine traditional GAA imagery with modern design techniques, reflect Lynch's ongoing interest in reimagining cultural symbols through fashion.
