1. Introduce Yourself to the Casawi Community: What drives you? What's your artistic vision, and what sets you apart from the crowd?

I am Juliet Casella, I live in Marseille, and I’m a multidisciplinary artist. I’m mostly known for my collage work, paintings, and music videos, but I love doing everything. I try to have as much fun as possible, which means exploring all kinds of mediums, experiences, and meeting new people. Last year, I even spent a year studying psychology, and now I’m considering training to become a private detective—LOL. I like the idea of turning my life into a performance, slipping into different characters.

2. City Inspirations: How has your city influenced your artistic path? Share how its streets, culture, and energy have molded your work.

I grew up in the South of France, then moved to Paris for art school, and honestly, I wasn’t very happy there. The rain, the people, the constant competition—it was counterproductive for me. When I decided to move to Marseille four years ago, it completely changed my life and my work. Marseille is all about the slow life, but more in a sense of softness—you can take your time and still do things well. The energy here is special; it pushes you when you need it but will also hug you when you’re down. It’s like having a super sexy, slightly toxic girlfriend.

3. Creative Process: What fuels your creativity? Whether it's a ritual, a muse, or a moment of clarity, we're keen to learn.

I need a lot of introspection and solo travel. I’d say my time is split 50/50 between creating and living life. I don’t understand those machine-like artists who work 24/7—it’s not my thing. To me, life is an essential part of any artwork. Without living, there’s no story, and without a story, the work loses its strength. I don’t really get what you’d have to say if you’re locked in your studio 24/7. Damn it, get out!

4. City Lifestyle and Art: How the places you lived influenced your career and work?

Marseille is my safe harbor. I’ve really built a cocoon here—a sacred place where I can always come back to recharge. I regain my energy, create with the joy and curiosity of a child, and then head off into the fast life for exhibitions, projects, residencies, and travels.

5. Latest or Upcoming Projects: Give us a glimpse into your current endeavors and what lies ahead on your creative journey.

Starting February 7, I’ll be exhibiting at the Jean Cocteau Foundation in Paris for three months. I’m also heading back to Japan to film a documentary, launching a podcast, gaming on twitch and opening an art experience-focused agency. I can’t wait to start 007-style investigations too! Honestly, I really need to buy a wig for each of my « jobs ». 🤭
