1. Introduce Yourself to the Casawi Community: What drives you? What's your artistic vision, and what sets you apart from the crowd?

Hej, ciao, my name is Laura Julie Brage. I hold a Master in Architecture, however I work more as a visual artist and designer under my multi-faceted playground AOA ATELIER, which stretches across apparel, objects and art. The wearables, accessories and objects are hand-made with various sustainable crafts into one-of-a-kind collections that become available as one time season-less drops. My fine art practices focuses around oil stick and pastel compositions, seeking to embrace texture and capture the vivid intersection between solid object and abstraction. Style is equally about the stroke itself as it is the material of the item, creating fields for viewers to rediscover beloved everyday items floating in obscure gardens.

2. City Inspirations: How has your city influenced your artistic path? Share how its streets, culture, and energy have molded your work.

Born and raised and based in Copenhagen, a capital that due to its size feels more like a village, where everyone knows your name. Copenhagen is growing rapidly, from worn out in the 80s to a world-example of the good life in a city today. A fairytale town which is a very one-sided storytelling right. No room for grey zones, depths and multiple point of views. No deep pockets of culture; as soon as originality shows up it becomes main culture here. We have room for beauty, for talent, not for niche, not for outskirts. So even though it is a very nurturing place to live, it is important for me to seek out. Get out of the pampered bubble for wider perspectives.

3. Creative Process: What fuels your creativity? Whether it's a ritual, a muse, or a moment of clarity, we're keen to learn.

My best friends will forever be my pen and paper. What I create on paper is not a physical thing; not a material surface; much more of an imaginary place, created by illusions. The colors are tools to express light and darkness, and the color tone is less of important, than the stroke itself. Same goes for the motive; the space between the forms, are energetically charged and for me the intersections are what makes the picture. Both on the canvas and in life. To be able to achieve this depths in my drawings I need to be in a state of flow, and I have so many rituals throughout my day, that helps me find peace and hereby focus. I eat mostly raw veggies, I work out two times a day, I read the daily paper on real paper, I am pretty strict around social media and I do not watch tv shows. I have a sensitive mind and body that gets out of balance easily, so I need to be very gentle around it to be able to feel good. To grow as a person for me has been to accept dark detours and then find ways to get back into my own rhythm without breaking down every time. So I take care of myself to be able to feel good to be able to go into flow to be able to let the best ideas arise.

4. City Lifestyle and Art: How the places you lived influenced your career and work?

My surroundings has a direct influence on my work, since I bring it everywhere and work everyday. Whether if it is on a mountain hotel in Georgia, a countryhouse in Italy, a loft atelier in Paris or a coperate space on Manhatten, I make myself one squaremeter with a table, chair, paper and pen and let the aesthetics, the histories and the languages be interpreted in my practice, trying to grasp my view of the underlying truth I see behind the visual glimpses of impressions.

5. Latest or Upcoming Projects: Give us a glimpse into your current endeavors and what lies ahead on your creative journey.

In 2025 I have 2 solo exhibition in Copenhagen and a new collection coming out in collaboration with another danish brand. Besides these major pillars I make multiple projects and I love working with other people in contrast to my solitude work with drawings. I find that every year I get greater opportunities, a stronger vision and more pleasure in my work. And there really is no better motivation than this :-))
