The German camera manufacturer Leica and Burton Snowboards have released a co-branded version of the SOFORT 2 instant camera. The design pays tribute to Jake Burton Carpenter, Burton's late founder, who regularly used Leica cameras to document his life and kept a collection of photos on a kitchen corkboard at his home.

The camera's exterior features Burton's signature pattern and logo on the top plate. A Burton-designed camera bag is included with each unit.

Users can print photos directly from the camera or transfer digital images from smartphones and other Leica cameras via the FOTOS app. The SOFORT 2 includes standard photography modes - selfie, landscape, and macro - plus ten built-in lens and film effects for photo customization.

Technical specifications remain identical to the standard SOFORT 2 model. The camera uses Instax Mini film for instant prints and includes a 3-inch LCD screen for image preview.

The limited edition SOFORT 2 Burton is now available through Leica's retail stores and website. Pricing is set at €595 in Europe, with U.S. pricing around $613 based on current exchange rates.

Behind the collaboration:

  • Jake Burton Carpenter founded Burton Snowboards in 1977 in Vermont
  • The company helped establish snowboarding as a mainstream sport during the 1980s and 1990s
  • Carpenter documented Burton's early years extensively with Leica cameras
  • He passed away in 2019 after leading Burton for over 40 years
