1. Introduce Yourself to the Casawi Community: What drives you? What's your artistic vision, and what sets you apart from the crowd?

My name is Mijoda, and I am originally from Germany. In 2022, I relocated to London to pursue a Master's degree in Fashion Accessory Design/Product Design at the London College of Fashion, specializing in Headwear Design. The course is called MA Fashion Artefact.

My artistic vision lies at the intersection of fashion, functionality, and environmental consciousness. I am driven by a desire to use design as a means to address real-world issues, particularly those related to sustainability and environmental challenges.

What sets me apart from the crowd is that my work transcends personal expression; it also serves as a tool for raising awareness and encouraging action on critical environmental issues.

2. City Inspirations: How has your city influenced your artistic path? Share how its streets, culture, and energy have molded your work.

Growing up in Bavaria, moving to Berlin at 21, and now living in London, each city has significantly shaped my artistic journey. Bavaria's natural beauty and rich cultural heritage instilled in me an appreciation for high-quality craftsmanship and traditional aesthetics. Berlin's art and party scene and vibrant street culture inspired me to push boundaries and explore bold, unconventional ideas. London, with its fashion landscape and commitment to sustainability, has driven me to integrate eco-friendly practices into my designs. My "Daughters of Rain" collection embodies the energy, culture, and values of these diverse urban landscapes, reflecting a synthesis of tradition, innovation, and environmental consciousness.

3. Creative Process: What fuels your creativity? Whether it's a ritual, a muse, or a moment of clarity, we're keen to learn.

Though I would describe myself as a dreamer, I am also a practical and logical person. My creativity is fueled by real-life situations and global events, both positive and negative. While creating for the sake of creation can be enjoyable, it doesn't fully engage me. What deeply inspires me is using design and creativity to raise awareness, provoke thought, and solve problems. For me, the true power of design lies in its ability to address real-world issues and drive positive change.

4. City Lifestyle and Art: How the places you lived influenced your career and work?

5. Latest or Upcoming Projects: Give us a glimpse into your current endeavors and what lies ahead on your creative journey.

My master’s project, titled “Daughters of Rain” presents a collection of headwear artefacts evolved to function as rainwater collection tools. This project responds, through the language of fashion, to our ongoing environmental water crisis and draws attention to the importance of rainwater as a sustainable freshwater resource that we can harness.

''In my vision of our future, freshwater will be so scarce that rain becomes a symbol of precious freshwater. I therefore envision rain to become extremely precious for us. It will be so precious, that whenever it falls, we all will gather outside to capture every single drop of it, in every way possible, also through what we wear on our bodies.

The Concept and Design aesthetics of Daughters of Rain is inspired by lay sisters and their devotion, heroism, solidarity and works of charity in times of crisis. These Sisters embodied the mission of an order, joining together groups of women across the globe and across centuries in a common creative purpose.
