MIYAZAKI'S FLYING PIG RETURNS: "PORCO ROSSO" REVIVAL

Hayao Miyazaki's animated classic "Porco Rosso" returns to Italian theaters on April 25, with screenings in seven major cities in both dubbed and subtitled formats.

Marco Pagot, the pig-faced aviator, soars back onto Italian screens this April as "Porco Rosso" returns for special screenings across the country. The 1992 animated film by Japanese director Hayao Miyazaki will be shown in select theaters on April 25, coinciding with Italy's Liberation Day.

Set against the backdrop of the Adriatic coastline and Dalmatian islands during the 1930s, the film follows a former World War I pilot who now lives as an anthropomorphic pig, hunting air pirates while wrestling with his past. The story explores themes of individual freedom and resistance against totalitarianism, creating a thematic link to the national holiday commemorating Italy's liberation from fascism.

The timing of these screenings offers particular resonance given the film's Italian setting and anti-authoritarian message. For longtime fans, this revival presents an opportunity to experience Miyazaki's work on the big screen once again, while introducing newer audiences to a modern animation classic.

Screenings will be available in both dubbed Italian and in the original Japanese with subtitles at the following locations:

  • Naples: Metropolitan Cinema, 4:00 PM
  • Rome: Quattro Fontane Cinema, 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM
  • Florence: Astra Cinema, 7:00 PM
  • Bologna: Odeon Cinema, 4:00 PM
  • Genoa: Sivori Cinema, 7:00 PM
  • Milan: Anteo Cinema, 7:30 PM
  • Turin: Eliseo Cinema, 4:00 PM
