Netflix released a trailer for "Avicii - I'm Tim", a documentary chronicling the life of Swedish DJ Tim Bergling, known professionally as Avicii, who died in 2018 at age 28.
The film features Bergling's own narration, drawn from recordings and personal archives, tracing his path from a reserved teenager in Stockholm to an electronic music icon who shaped modern dance music with tracks like "Levels" and "Wake Me Up."
Director Henrik Burman assembled intimate footage from home videos and private collections, alongside interviews with Coldplay's Chris Martin, singer Aloe Blacc, and Bergling's close friends and family. The documentary examines the person behind the stage name, offering perspectives from those who knew him beyond his public persona.
The film addresses Bergling's struggles with anxiety and substance use, which were previously detailed in Måns Mosesson's biography. In journal entries quoted in the book, Bergling wrote about his difficulty accepting medical advice to avoid alcohol: "I had a hard time accepting never drinking again though strongly suggested from all doctors to wait at least a year before even having a beer... I was ignorant and naïve and touring the world, still on the never-ending tour."
His time in hospitals provided rare moments of peace, as he noted: "Those days in hospital were the most anxiety and stress-free days I can remember the past six years, those were my true vacations, as depressing as it might sound."
The documentary debuts December 31 on Netflix, accompanied by "Avicii - My Last Show", featuring footage from his final performance at Ibiza's Ushaïa. Bergling died by suicide in Muscat, Oman, in April 2018.
