Considered one of the most significant partnerships of the year, this union between Lev Tanju's skatewear label and the iconic designer's brand stems from a desire to use fashion as a means of highlighting the connection between the skateboarding and punk subcultures that flourished together in the 1980s.
At the heart of the collection are elements that are emblematic of these two distinct British brands, coming together to create an intriguing dialogue between their respective archives. From tartan patterns adorning caps, trousers and jackets with bondage details, to Victorian-inspired corsetry, the range spans both streetwear silhouettes like bomber jackets, GORE-TEX tailoring, and graphic tees. The legacy of both brands heavily informs the presentation, with Vivienne Westwood's Spring/Summer 1992 "Salon" print revived on GORE-TEX pieces.
Rounding out the offering is a teddy bear-shaped backpack, belts, wallets, and a jewelry line - with the label's early 1990s iconography informing the oversized teddy bear bags. The release also signals the first womenswear drop for Palace, with a repurposed take on the Vivienne Westwood classic corset serving as a standout piece.
"From the first day I went to Palace years ago, I liked what they were doing," said Vivienne Westwood's Creative Director Andreas Kronthaler. "Their designs are made with quality, they are accessible and democratic. It felt natural for us to join forces, it was a very playful exercise and it was a pleasure working with the team and making new friends."
The full collection will be released this Friday, September 6th, on the official websites and in the stores of both brands. The lively Palace x Vivienne Westwood lookbook features a range of new friends, including US rappers Sematary and Matt OX, as well as Sibyl Buck, Ed Teller, Issa Lish, Palace rider Lucien Clarke and DJ/singer Josh Café.
"Vivienne Westwood has long been a massive inspiration to me, particularly through the brand's ever-evolving creative output," added Palace Co-Founder Gareth Skewis. "We are immensely proud to have collaborated with such an iconic British brand. This collection is a true reflection of our shared values and influences, bringing together two distinct perspectives united by a common ground of independent thought, all with a uniquely London twist."
