At the 2024 Paris Olympics, famous global brands like ASICS, Lululemon, and Le Coq Sportif/Berluti revealed uniforms for Team Australia, Canada, and France. But, it’s Team Mongolia that caught everyone’s attention with their striking parade uniforms. These uniforms are the creation of Michel & Amazonka, a local Mongolian brand.
Michel & Amazonka was established in 2015 by sisters Michel, Amazonka, and Munkhjargal Choigaalaa. It operates from Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia. The brand is known for its blend of Mongolian culture and tradition with modern designs. This spans both couture and ready-to-wear collections.
They've designed uniforms for Team Mongolia at the Paris Olympics. The uniforms are for the opening and closing ceremonies. They’ve created two styles for each gender. They include traditional deels - long, loose robes made for horseback riding. They also include fancy vests with nature-themed embroidery. The hats are cone-shaped with 32 stitches. The stitches represent the unity of the 32 tribes. They also have Mongolian boots, called Gutals, with upturned toes. For women, the brand has added extra accessories such as earrings and a handbag.
Keep an eye out for these uniforms on July 26 at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics at the Seine.
