1. Introduce Yourself to the Casawi Community: What drives you? What's your artistic vision, and what sets you apart from the crowd?
Hello, lovely Casawi community! I’m Tida Kamara, your favorite bald DJ from Amsterdam, and what drives me the most is my passion for cultural heritage. My journey of studying cultural diversity at university and growing up in a multicultural environment opened my eyes to the beauty and richness of different cultures, and I’ve made it my mission to infuse this into my artistic vision. My sets are not just about the music—they’re about creating a space where women can feel seen, heard, and celebrated. Growing up, I was surrounded by incredibly strong and opinionated women who shaped who I am today, both as a person and as an artist. They inspired me to use my platform to uplift and highlight women in the DJ industry. What sets me apart is the sense of community and empowerment I strive to bring to my performances. At the end of the day, we're all there for the same purpose: to let loose and enjoy ourselves.
2. City Inspirations: How has your city influenced your artistic path? Share how its streets, culture, and energy have molded your work.
Moving to Amsterdam was the best decision I made when I was 18. I packed my bags and moved across the country from my hometown, and it changed everything. Amsterdam is truly a city for the people, where support and community thrive over competition, creating a non-toxic environment perfect for growth. Moving to Amsterdam at 18 was the best decision I ever made. I packed my bags and left my hometown, and it changed my life. Amsterdam is a city that truly supports its people. Here, there's a strong sense of community without the toxic competition, making it the perfect place to grow and thrive. What makes Amsterdam special for me is its connection to SoundCloud culture. Many of the innovative edits and sounds I love started here in the Netherlands. Being surrounded by these pioneers is a huge advantage—I get to learn from them up close, which deeply influences my work. Despite its size, Amsterdam feels safe and welcoming, with a raw edge that keeps it endlessly interesting. It’s a city where I never feel bored and always find new inspiration.
3. Creative Process: What fuels your creativity? Whether it's a ritual, a muse, or a moment of clarity, we're keen to learn.
ALONE TIME! I can't stress this enough. I'm 22 now, and I've played over 110 gigs since I started at 20. In the beginning, I went to every party to network and not miss out on the fun—a classic case of FOMO. But it eventually drained me and stifled my creativity. My mind felt like an empty box. Taking time for myself has become essential. You need to recharge your brain and center yourself, especially if you're always out and about, mingling with different energies. What fuels my creativity now is taking care of myself: eating well, relaxing, and indulging in Gossip Girl whenever I feel like it.
4. City Lifestyle and Art: How the places you lived influenced your career and work?
Growing up, I spent a lot of time in London, where my dad lived for nine years. My mom, sister, and I visited at least once a month, and being in London exposed me to a much larger Sierra Leonean community than we had in the Netherlands. This early exposure helped me weave my own culture into my life and work from a young age. As a mixed person, my parents always made sure I felt grounded in both my Dutch and Sierra Leonean identities. Visiting London regularly was a great way to connect with the Sierra Leonean side of me. Despite living in a predominantly white area, I went to one of the most multicultural schools in the region, with classmates from Kurdish to Colombian backgrounds. Additionally, my dad's love for Bollywood films meant I grew up with a surprising amount of Bollywood music. All these experiences, from the cultural diversity of my school to the Bollywood soundtrack of my childhood, have profoundly influenced my career and the values I stand for.
5. Latest or Upcoming Projects: Give us a glimpse into your current endeavors and what lies ahead on your creative journey.
In August, I’m thrilled to release my first Editpack—eight of my favorite songs reimagined in entirely new genres. It’s been a long time in the making, and I can’t wait for you to hear it! Additionally, my party, Rooted, will continue at Skate Cafe in early October. I’m deep into planning the next event, so if you’re in the city, be sure to come by and join the fun.
